Overview

The Pharmacy Technician supports military healthcare operations by assisting pharmacists with medication preparation, prescription processing, inventory management, and customer service activities within Military Treatment Facilities in Okinawa, Japan. This role ensures safe and efficient pharmacy operations while supporting quality patient care and compliance with DHA and DoD standards.

*Position is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists in preparing, packaging, labeling, and dispensing medications in accordance with applicable regulations and pharmacy procedures.
  • Receive and process prescription requests while ensuring accuracy and completeness of patient information.
  • Maintain pharmacy inventory, stock medications and supplies, and assist with inventory control procedures.
  • Provide customer service to patients, staff, and healthcare providers regarding prescription processing and medication pick-up procedures.
  • Maintain accurate pharmacy records and documentation within electronic systems.
  • Comply with HIPAA requirements and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Participate in orientation, annual training, and all required compliance training programs.
  • Follow infection control standards and universal precautions in the workplace.
  • Adhere to DHA, DoD, installation, and pharmacy operational policies and procedures.
  • Clearly identify contractor status while performing duties within the facility.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of a Pharmacy Technician training program preferred.
  • Current certification as a Pharmacy Technician through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or equivalent preferred or required by task order.
  • Minimum experience in outpatient, inpatient, or retail pharmacy operations preferred.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy terminology, medication preparation, dosage calculations, and inventory procedures.
  • Basic computer proficiency and typing skills.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or required by task order.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Must meet all health screening, immunization, background check, and installation access requirements.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and work effectively in a military healthcare environment.
