Overview

The Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) serves as a Center Mental Health Consultant (CMHC) supporting the Hawaii Job Corps Center. This role focuses on providing prevention, assessment, short-term counseling, and case management services to adolescents and young adults enrolled in the Job Corps program.

  • Site Location: Hawaii Job Corps Center (Hawaii)
  • Work Schedule:
    • Minimum 21 hours/week up to 42.2 hours/week
    • Schedule determined by center needs prior to start date
    • May include adjusted schedules during emergencies (e.g., weather, pandemic)
  • Employment Type: Independent Contractor
  • Population Served: Adolescents and young adults (primarily disadvantaged backgrounds)

The LCSW works collaboratively with the Health and Wellness team to address mental health barriers impacting student success and employability.

 

*Position is contingent upon contract award.

Responsibilities

Assessment & Evaluation

  • Conduct mental health assessments for applicants and enrolled students
  • Review applicant files and participate in:
    • File Review Team (FRT)
    • Disability Accommodation Committee (DAC)
  • Evaluate mental health stability and recommend:
    • Program admission
    • Accommodation needs
    • Referral or denial recommendations (as appropriate)

Case Management

  • Develop and implement individualized case management plans
  • Identify barriers to employability and create targeted interventions
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary staff (counselors, medical staff, TEAP specialists)
  • Participate in regular case conferences and follow-ups

Treatment & Counseling

  • Provide short-term counseling using an EAP (Employee Assistance Program) model
  • Deliver crisis intervention and emergency mental health evaluations
  • Refer students to off-center providers for long-term or specialized care
  • Support students on psychotropic medications in coordination with medical staff

Program Support & Collaboration

  • Work closely with:
    • Health and Wellness Director
    • Counseling staff
    • Center Physician and nursing team
  • Provide consultation and training to staff on mental health topics
  • Assist in developing student support strategies and interventions

Mental Health Promotion & Education

  • Conduct:
    • Orientation presentations for new students
    • Annual center-wide mental health initiatives
  • Promote awareness on topics such as stress, depression, and crisis response

Community Coordination

  • Establish and maintain referral networks with community providers
  • Coordinate services with external agencies (e.g., psychiatric facilities, vocational rehab)

Qualifications

  • Education: Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW)
  • Licensure: Active, unrestricted LCSW license in the state of Hawaii
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 1 year as an independent practitioner
    • Experience working with adolescents and young adults
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Work in schools, correctional settings, military, or similar environments
    • Experience with disadvantaged populations
  • Other Requirements:
    • Ability to practice independently (no supervision required)
    • Background check clearance
    • Professional liability insurance
    • Strong collaboration and case management skills
