Overview

Location: Eglin AFB, FL

 

Position Type: Temporary Coverage starting 3/5/2025 for up to 12 weeks

 

Work Schedule: Hours of Performance: The performance hours of the MTF are as follows: The 96th Medical Group is open 24 hours. Normal operating hours for the Dental Clinic are Monday - Friday between the hours of 0630-1730. Please refer to 1.5.7.2. Scheduling for specific hours for each labor category.

 

1.5.7.2. Scheduling: The schedule or scheduling process is as follows: Duty hours will be scheduled by the Flight Commander, or designee, to correspond with the needs of the department. See paragraphs 5.4.4.1 for schedule details. Any planned absences of the HCW shall be communicated to the Government supervisor 30 days in advance of the absence to ensure that clinical operations are not adversely affected.

 

Compressed Work Schedule: At the mutual agreement of the Contractor and the Government, and with the approval of the squadron commander or designee, alternative schedules may be implemented such as a compressed work schedule. The compressed schedule will fall within Monday through Friday, with four 11 hour shifts to include a 1- hour (nonpaid) lunch. Patient encounter goal number will remain unchanged. Any changes in the schedule shall be coordinated between the Contractor, the HCW and the Government. Schedule changes must be submitted to the COR and approved by the Contracting Officer. All changes will be approved in writing and agreed upon by the contracting officer and the contractor. The Government reserves the right to change shift hours with a 30-day notice to accommodate patient care needs and mission as needed.

 

Hourly Pay: $22.58/hr & Health & Wellness $4.57/hr worked (in lieu of benefits)

Responsibilities

  • Exposes and processes dental radiographs. Adjusts radiographic machine, places film in proper position, and exposes intra-oral films. Places patient in proper position for extra-oral radiograph and exposes film. Processes, labels, and mounts film. Duplicates dental radiographs and practices and enforces accepted radiation safety standards.
  • Assists dental officer with patient treatment. Receives patient, examines dental record, and prepares patient for treatment. Adjusts dental chair and selects and arranges instruments and medications. Takes and records blood pressure.
  • Assists in managing emergency procedures. Retracts tissues and maintains clear operating field, prepares syringe for injection of anesthetics, prepares materials for making impressions and restoring defective teeth.
  • Records entries in individual dental records indicating oral cavity condition and treatment accomplished.
  • Follows infection control procedures and guidelines. Cleans, sterilizes, and sharpens dental instruments. Tests sterilizing equipment. Cleans, lubricates, and makes minor adjustments to dental equipment. Performs daily inspection and user maintenance of dental equipment. Practices and enforces accepted safety standards.
  • Performs dental administrative and materiel duties. Maintain dental health records, filing systems, and publications. Review correspondence, reports, and records for accuracy.
  • Develops, manages, and conduct self-assessment and hazard communication and dental training programs. Perform dental materiel functions related to procurement, custodial responsibilities, and budgeting, maintaining, and disposing of dental supplies and equipment.
  • During National Children’s Dental Health Month, the dental assistant may volunteer to visit local schools to educate youth on the importance of good oral hygiene (Not to exceed the 40-mile commuting radius of their assigned MTF).
  • Assists the dental officer with dental treatment and care of Military Working Dogs at the Base Veterinarians Office (Not to exceed the 40-mile commuting radius of their assigned MTF

Qualifications

  • Degree/Education (5.2.4): A High School diploma is required. Preference is for graduates of formal programs in dental assisting or possess a Dental Assistant certification recognized by the U.S. Department of Education accreditation programs in dental assisting. However, military dental assistant training or vocational-technical training in high school or post-secondary vocational schools or American Red Cross Dental Assistant training, or at least 12 months experience as a civilian dental assistant will be consider.
  • Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support (5.2.3): The contractor shall hold current American Heart Association or the American Red Cross Healthcare Provider (HCP) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Certification granted based solely on computer-based training does not constitute fulfillment of this requirement. Must be certified in radiography as per Title 42 CFR Part 75. Basic Life Support Training is NOT PROVIDED BY THE GOVERNMENT.
  • Experience: Six months of experience as a Dental Assistant after graduation.
