Overview

Location: Travis AFB, CA - David Grant Medical Center

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8 hour days, specific  start/end dates may be adjusted to meet work center needs within the hours of 0700-1800.

On-Call and Holidays: Required

Pay: $38/hr + Health & Wellness $4.57/hr worked (in lieu of benefits), $6/hr for on-call

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties within the scope of practice determined by didactic, laboratory, and clinical technological education and registration.
  • Review and/or record pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data.
  • Perform appropriate clinical procedures and obtain a record of anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data for interpretation by a physician.
  • Exercise discretion and judgment in the performance of cardiovascular diagnostic and therapeutic services.
  • Participate in interventional cardiovascular catheterization and/or cardiac electrophysiology procedures, including balloon angioplasty, stent insertion, radiofrequency ablation, and pacemaker and/or implantable defibrillator insertion.
  • Perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations.
  • Operate equipment identified in the TO. Perform daily warm up and assigned quality control checks of the equipment
  • Receive patients and explain procedures, providing humane and appropriate care and communication to alleviate fear of examination. Correctly position the patient for the examination and make adjustments necessary for the required examination.
  • Input key test data and patient information into computer of equipment to maintain record of test results.
  • Identify abnormalities during testing and determine the need for additional scans of affected area.
  • Recognize anatomic variants and determine which other area(s) of the body should be scanned.
  • Maintain and clean equipment on a regular basis in accordance with MTF policy. Stock and maintain an adequate level of supplies required for diagnostic procedures. Recommend necessary repairs when diagnostic quality is degraded.
  • Room preparation and breakdown to include stocking rooms, daily Quality Control (QC) checks, radiographic, hemodynamic and computer setup, and room cleanup. Prepare sterile procedure tray and patient sterile field appropriately for specified procedure type.
  • Evaluate the status of the patient during the procedure; provide age and gender specific care, prep access site according to lab standard practice, and perform EKG lead placement, blood pressure and pulse oximetry setup for hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Acquire and accurately document pertinent patient data in the electronic health record and enter into hemodynamic and X-ray systems.
  • Operates all physiologic and radiographic equipment safely and correctly.
  • Assesses procedure room for equipment functioning and readiness.
  • Obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs of the Cardiac Cath Laboratory team are met.
  • Observe occupational and radiation safety regulations (wearing badges, lead aprons, goggles, gloves).
  • Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Demonstrates ability to provide guidance and assistance to Cardiac Cath Lab Technologist team to ensure guidelines are met in a safe/efficient manner, including coaching, troubleshooting problems and monitoring service needs.
  • Assists management in maintaining the efficient use of resources including staff, equipment, and supplies.

Qualifications

Degree/Education :  Graduate from a cardiovascular technologist program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) through the Joint Review Committee in Cardiovascular Technology (JRC-CVT). Or may be prior graduate from the Air Force Cardiopulmonary program with an active Certification with the Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) credential.

 

Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required.

 

Experience: The technician must have a minimum of two years professional Cardiac Catheterization experience. The technician must have worked full time or part time (greater than 20hrs/week) as a professional Cardiac Catheterization technician for at least 12 months in the last 24 months.  Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory Technician should have at least six (6) months of experience with peripheral vascular interventions, preferably in a hybrid operating room environment. Technician will help facilitate urgent/emergent cases either in the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) or the CCL. As this is integrated CCL (cardiac and peripheral practice) call will be for both the endovascular technician and CCL technician. The technician must have a minimum of two years professional Cardiac Catheterization experience. The technician must have worked full time or part time (greater than 20hrs/week) as a professional Cardiac Catheterization technician for at least 12 months in the last 24 months.
