Overview

Description of Services: The 19th Medical Group (19 MDG) is an outpatient facility located at Little Rock Air Force Base that provides clinical services and preventive medicine programs to an eligible population of more than 43,000 beneficiaries. The Physician Assistant will serve as a provider in outpatient Primary Care, seeing pediatrics and adult patients ages 2 years and older.

Schedule: Contract employee will be scheduled to work between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday with one hour lunch period per day.

Location: Little Rock AFB, AR

Pay: Between $110k/year - $120k/year

Responsibilities

HCW Duties (5.1 Task 1): Core duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide a full range of Physician Assistant services in primary and specialty medical care within the limits of their training and privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
  • Technically direct and provide care for a variety of diseases and types of injuries (i.e., acute, chronic, and minor trauma), and the skills to recognize emergency conditions to diagnose, prescribe for and treat diseases, disorders, and injuries, and refer the more serious conditions to qualified medical personnel and perform designated treatment.
  • Technically direct and teach other staff and participate in in-service training to staff members.
  • Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care through both formal and individual education and counseling.
  • Be capable of diagnosing and treating a wide range of pediatric and adult acute and chronic diseases and injuries within standards of care including but not limited to conditions of the: skin, pulmonary system, head, gastrointestinal system, eyes, musculoskeletal system, ears, genitourinary system, nose, reproductive system, throat, lymphatic system, neck, central nervous system, cardiovascular system, endocrine system, psychiatric and behavioral health.
  • Have sufficient experience to be able to adequately perform medical procedures to include, but not limited to, the following:
    • Basic Life Support, punch biopsies, excision of skin lesions, simple abscess incision and drainage, EKGs, PFTs, comprehensive family planning counseling, cancer detection screening, STD and vaginitis screens, vulvar, cervical, wet preps, wet mounts, nail trephination, suture simple laceration, suture removal, nebulizer treatment, urine catheterization, cultures (throat, wound), remove ocular, nasal and ear foreign bodies, clearing of ears by flush technique, bandaging of sprains, minor burns, and minor lacerations, performs or requests special screening and development tests and laboratory tests and interprets the results.
    • Orders and interprets the following tests performed by outside laboratories including but not limited to routine blood chemistry, hematology, microbiology, bacteriology, virology, toxicology, pathology, and cytology.
    • Orders and interprets the findings of radiological studies, including but not limited to CT scans, MRIs, X-rays, VQ scans, nuclear medicine scans, and other tests that may be necessary for the diagnosis and treatment of a patient.
    • Consultations will be requested on the interpretation of abnormal studies.
  • Prescribe in accordance with approved treatment protocols and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee approved medications and immunizations.
  • Perform specific diagnostic and therapeutic practices and procedures in accordance with scope of practice.
  • Establish collaborative rapport with physician, nursing, and others to promote and facilitate primary care services.
  • Teach patients and family member's healthy regimen and responsibility for achieving wellness.
  • Participate in peer review process.
  • Recognize those more complicated cases, initiate treatment (if appropriate), and refer to a higher level of medical expertise for diagnosis and/or treatment.
  • Effectively uses appropriate communication format in addressing professional issues.
  • Excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements.
  • Ensures a safe work environment, employee safe work habits and patient safety in accordance with (IAW) regulatory agencies, infection control policies, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinates patient care through a continuum and facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Degree: Bachelor's degree.
  • Education: Graduation from a Physician Assistant Education Program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission for Physician Assistant Education, Inc. or its predecessors, and acceptable to the Service-specific guidelines.
  • Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support (5.2.3): National certification as listed below.
  • Experience: Have at least 12 months of experience as a Physician Assistant in Primary Care for adults and children.
  • National Certification (5.2.6.4.4): Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistants (NCCPA). Must maintain NCCPA certification through the life of this task order.
  • Licensure/Registration: Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant.
