Overview

Location: Fort Eustis, VA

Pay rate: $26.50 - $28.26 + $4.41/hw

Work Schedule: Three rotational schedules between the hours of 0700-0700 (24hr period): 0700-1500,1500-2300 and 2300-0700.

Responsibilities

  • Responds to the site of accidents or other emergencies involving injury or illness and potential environmental risks.
  • Upon arrival at emergency scene, the paramedic makes an independent preliminary assessment of scene safety, number of victims, and the need for additional resources.
  • Coordinates with other responding agencies to ensure safe and rapid access to the patient(s) without endangering victims, bystanders, or other emergency personnel.
  • Each incident is typically unstructured with each contact being based on unique circumstances.
  • Attempt to ascertain whether the patient has pre-existing medical problems and solicits a comprehensive medical and drug history from the patient that includes the names, strength, and dosage of drugs taken.
  • Prioritize treatments for patients having multiple problems.
  • Provide treatment as prescribed by protocol and contacts online medical control to deviate from established treatment protocol(s) as necessary.
  • Determines, with regard for the patient's condition, how the patient can best be moved and to which medical facility the patient should be transported based on their injuries.
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of charts, reports, forms, and logs in support of the medical treatment facility and is required to complete documents in both written and computer generated formats.
  • Provide a full range of EMT services within the MTF and supported geographical area.
  •  Maintain proficiency in the operation of the ambulance radio equipment.
  •  Monitor and operate ambulance radio equipment as required by the circumstances.
  •  Provide the patient with the necessary and appropriate medical care, consistent with ambulance equipment and supplies, and personnel certification, training, and experience during transport
  • Control and properly dispose of all medical waste incurred during transport. Exhibit 5-16, Version 1.4 (26 Apr 18)
  •  Conduct routine restocking, cleaning, and disinfection of the vehicle, equipment, and supplies. Ensure the ambulances are safe to operate, sanitary, and properly functioning. 
  • Document all treatment provided to the patient during the patient transport.
  • Rapidly stabilizing the patient, according to Advance Life Support (ALS) protocol and EMS written protocols.
  • Lift, place, and deliver patients to the receiving destinations for medical care. Place patients on monitors, administer needles, IVs, oxygen, or dressings. Carry patient records or baggage/belongings to the destination for patient care. Redress patient’s wounds.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of two years of active experience practicing at the Paramedic level.
  • Educaiton: Graduate from an accredited Nationally Registered Paramedic Program (NRP).
  • Certifications: in addition to Basic Life Support: American Heart Association or Red Cross Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Certification, American Heart Association or Red Cross Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification, American Heart Association or Red Cross Basic Life Support Certification. 
  • Board Certification: Virginia State emergency Vehicle Operations course certification (or equivalent), Federal Emergency Management Agemcy (FEMA), National Incident management System (NIMS) 100 level certification, FEMA, NIMS, 200 Level Certification, FEMA NIMS 700 Level Certification, amd FEMA NIMS 800 Level Certification.
  • License/Registration: Nonw Required
