Overview

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases is looking to hire a Certified Nursing Assistant that has 13 years of CNA experiene, a high school diploma, and superior customer service skills. 

 

The position is hourly with payrate starting at $26.00/ hour, and is full-time (40 hours/week).

Statement of Work Details

  • Participates in the development of diagnostic interviews with the principal investigator.
    • Attend staff meetings to go over clinical ratings and procedures.
    • Consult with principal investigator, physician and nursing staff regarding tests results, unusual patient behavior, etc.
    • Participate in weekly conference sessions where participants’ data are evaluated to determine participants’ status.
  • Administers diagnostic interviews and prepares summaries in support of research protocols.

    • Fill out diagnostic paperwork after completing each interview and prepare written and computerized summaries of clinical interviews.
  • Coordinates adult relative and child participant recruitment.

    • Attend provider meetings and recruitment events to present study information and distribute recruitment materials i.e. mental health fairs.
  • Prepares patients for examinations and assists staff with specialized procedures and diagnostic exams.
    • Work with researchers and medical staff on transport of patients, specimens, equipment and supplies, generating numeric tracking labels for samples prior to submission.
    • Perform basic procedures, such as collecting and processing specimens, performing venipuncture, obtaining EKGs, performing IV insertion and checking vital signs.
    • Observe and ensure the safety of human subjects while procedures are being performed and bring all patient concerns and issues to researchers or medical staff.
    • Collect specimens from study participants (including but not limited to blood draws of HIV Infected Blood and urine specimens) for management and transportation preparation per coordinating protocol.
    • Assist physicians during examinations and procedures and answer patient calls for help.
  • Assists patients and reinforces instructions regarding self management.

    • Assist patients and research participants with activities of daily living as needed
    • Reinforce policies and procedures to research participants as directed by researchers or medical staff to ensure procedural effectiveness.
    • Assist research participants or other health care team members with prescribed interventions as directed by research or medical staff.
    • Provide patients clear documentation and directions for continuity of self-managed portions of treatment and follow on activities or testing per the research protocol and medical procedures.

    • Organize research information for clinical projects as per investigator request.
    • Monitor stock to ensure it is being utilized within the proper time limitations.
    • Replenish medical supplies for phlebotomy area and exam room and ensure expired supplies are disposed of properly.
    • Promptly identify, remove, report and dispose of outdated and/or contaminated suppliesto NIH, to JCHCO and Environmental Audits.
    • Coordinate the follow-up to stipulation requests to ensure Good Clinical practices (GCP) Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) according to Federal regulations; reinforce researchparticipant’s instructions in the proper technique of various selfadministered treatmentsand documents the activities performed.
    • Perform data entry in electronic databases.
    • Utilize automated equipment and devices safely.
    • Reinforce policies and procedures to research participants in conjunction with the clinicalnurse teaching.
    • Participate in Protocol Training Sessions.
    • Perform reminder phone calls to study volunteers.
    • Perform clerical duties (answer phone, copy medical records, file medical records) as assigned to meet the needs of the research participants.
    • Perform telephone reminder calls to clinic volunteers.
    • Perform apheresis scheduling.
    • Provide one in-service per year.
    • Participate in clinic meetings.
    • Check and respond to emails in a timely manner
    • Give insights and recommendations to improve clinic performance.

    • Prepare subject sample collection tubes daily/weekly per protocols for all visits.
    • Process specimens collected from study participants and distribute to appropriate lab for

    • Ensure that sample information is accurate prior to releasing samples to be transported to the couriers, clinicians or scientists.
    • Coordinate with investigators on when to retrieve samples for experiments.
    • Ensure that all samples are properly transported without compromising the experiment.
    • Create and review sample submission forms for accuracy prior to database entry.
    • Maintain Chain of Custody Sheets.
    • Maintain Sample Submission Forms.
    • Coordinate the retrieval of samples from the laboratory storage facility upon investigators' request.
    • Correct and log discrepancies/clarification pertaining to sample collections and impart changes to policies to prevent future errors.
    • Observe and ensure the safety of human subjects while procedures are being performed.
    • Assist in the conduct follow up visits and review follow up forms with volunteer.
    • Obtain and document vital signs; temperature, blood pressure, height/weight, and report any abnormal findings to the clinical nurse.
    • Perform and document pregnancy tests on volunteers prior to vaccination as per protocolsand clinician instruction.
    • Perform QC test and maintain log on products used for procedures
    • Assist research participants or other health care team members with prescribed interventions as directed by the Clinical Research Nurse.

Qualifications

Certifications & Licenses

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Certification required
  • Minimum of thirteen (13) years of experience in a related field.
  • Less than a Bachelor's degree
