Overview

The ER physician will perform onsite Emergency Department Physician Services to eligible beneficiaries of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, VA Central California Healthcare System (hereinafter referred to as
VACCHCS).

 

Schedule: Sign-up schedule.  Can average between 5 to 20 shifts each month.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with consultants appropriately.
  • Provide medical advice over the telephone.
  • Complete all required paperwork.
  • Diagnose and treat diseases and injuries.
  • Perform medical procedures.
  • Obtain an adequate history, physical, assessment, and plan in a timely and appropriate manner on each patient and develop a treatment plan.
  • Utilize paraprofessional staff as appropriate.
  • Respond to cardiopulmonary arrest as appropriate and arrange appropriate backup from the Emergency Medical Service (EMS).
  • Interpret electrocardiograms.
  • Preliminary to interpret radiographs to include CAT scans Direct medical care through radio communication with an ambulance.

Qualifications

  • The Emergency Room Physician shall have a doctorate degree from an accredited college.
  • The Emergency Room Physician shall possess board certification, or board eligible, in emergency medicine (American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) or American Board of Osteopathic Emergency Medicine (ABOEM) only or have successfully completed an accredited emergency medicine residency and applied for board certification in emergency medicine (ABEM or ABOEM only).
  • Physicians shall be current in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Physicians shall possess board certification in a field other than emergency medicine.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience working in the ER.
  • Possess and maintain a current unrestricted license to practice as an Emergency Medicine Physician.
