Overview

Bayne-Jones Army Community Hospital is a military treatment facility located at Fort Polk, Louisiana, supporting the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) and one of the Army’s busiest training installations. The hospital’s 24/7 Level III Emergency Department includes 12 treatment beds and serves approximately 28,000 beneficiaries and over 60,000 rotational soldiers annually. Emergency Medicine Physicians work in a dynamic, mission-driven environment providing care to active-duty service members, military families, and retirees while supporting operational readiness and military training missions.

 

Hours of Performance

The providers shall be able to provide services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays. Shifts will be 12 hours in length. No guarantee can be made that the shift will end as scheduled. A minimum break of 30 minutes will be given during the shift if patient care permits. Work hours and days will be determined by GLWACH and confirmed by the contractor. A schedule discussed between a contract physician and ER staff is not considered valid. Schedules are subject to change due to cancellations, hospital staff changes, organization day, emergencies, exodus, training holidays and unexpected events. The most a provider can work is six consecutive days in a row and then a minimum of a one day break is required.

Compensation Package: $210/hour base rate with travel and lodging reimbursement included

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive emergency medical care to active-duty military personnel, military families, retirees, and other eligible beneficiaries within a 24/7 Emergency Department environment
  • Evaluate, diagnose, stabilize, and treat patients presenting with acute illnesses, traumatic injuries, and emergent medical conditions
  • Perform emergency procedures consistent with Emergency Medicine scope of practice, including airway management, trauma stabilization, wound care, splinting, and resuscitative interventions
  • Support a 12-bed Level III Emergency Department with an average monthly census of approximately 2,000 patients
  • Provide medical support for soldiers participating in operations and training exercises associated with the Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC) at Fort Johnson
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams including physicians, nurses, medics, specialists, and ancillary staff to ensure timely and effective patient care
  • Utilize the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) triage system to prioritize and manage patient care based on acuity levels
  • Document patient encounters, treatment plans, procedures, and dispositions accurately within the electronic medical record system
  • Ensure compliance with Military Health System policies, hospital protocols, quality assurance standards, and patient safety guidelines
  • Participate in the admission, transfer, and discharge process while coordinating follow-up care and specialty referrals as needed
  • Maintain readiness to respond to medical emergencies, mass casualty situations, and operational support requirements associated with military training activities
  • Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care in a fast-paced military treatment facility environment focused on operational readiness and healthcare excellence

Qualifications

The contract physicians shall meet the following minimum qualifications:

 

The providers shall have graduated from an accredited educational and medical college or university. GLWACH's emergency room is identified as a level III and the ER physicians shall meet the experience, training and certification requirements for a JC level III emergency room. The providers can initially qualify by meeting any one of the following three standards:

 

  • The ER physician shall be residency trained in emergency medicine and board certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
  • The ER physician shall be residency trained in emergency medicine, board eligible in Emergency Medicine, have 2,000 hours of ER experience after residency and not be out of residency for more than two years. If the ER physician is out of residency for more than two years and still board eligible in emergency medicine, the provider is considered unqualified for this contract.
  • The ER physician shall be residency trained and board certified in Pediatrics, Family Practice or Internal Medicine while working more than 20 hours per week for the past 12 consecutive months in a similar or higher level III emergency care institution after board certification.

 

 

Providers shall have a minimum of two years’ experience as a practicing provider in the last three years. Residency time counts as practicing experience. Time spent in an administrative capacity as a claims reviewer, medical school instructor, medical director, internet physician, etc. does not qualify as practicing time.

 

Shall be a M.D. or D.O. and be capable of treating patients of all ages.

 

Shall possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in one of the 50 United States, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam or U.S. Virgin Islands and be able to obtain privileges at GLWACH through approval of the credentials committee.

 

Shall have and maintain, at all times and at contractor expense, current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certificate and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certificate by way of an American Heart Association training program. For providers who qualify via 1.2.1.a. and b. they shall only be required to possess and maintain BLS at all times at
contractor expense.
